Giovanni Grasso, MD, PhD, is associate professor at the Department of Biomedicine, Neuroscience and Advanced Diagnostics (BiND) at the University of Palermo, Italy. Prof. Grasso completed his undergraduate work at the University of Messina, Italy. He completed his medical education through the MD program of the University of Messina and achieved the PhD in Neurooncology at the same institution with remarks. He joined the University Palermo, section of Neurological Surgery in 2005 following completion of neurosurgical residency at the University of Messina and a fellowship at the Kenneth S Warren Institute, Yale and Harvard University. He has specialized training in vascular surgery. Prof. Grasso’s clinical interests are brain tumors, cerebral vascular malformations, and spinal pathologies. His research endeavors involve developing novel therapeutic interventions for brain and spinal cord pathologies with particular focus in neuroprotection. Prof. Grasso received several international awards in the field of neuroprotection. Prof. Grasso has published more than 200 papers in international refereed journals, authored numerous book chapters, and garnered several awards for his scientific research. He is scored in the Top Italian Scientists and is a member of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery, European Society of Neurosurgery, and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He has attended numerous meetings in Italy and abroad and has tutored as faculty several training courses. He has performed over 3,000 surgeries covering most of the neurosurgical pathologies. He joined the University of Palermo in 2005, after completing the residency in Neurosurgery in Italy and fellowships in the United States at the Kenneth S Warren Institute, Yale University and Harvard University .
To date, he has performed numerous surgeries as the first operator for brain pathologies (tumors, aneurysms, trauma, trigeminal neuralgia) and of the spine (cervical & lumbar disc herniation, spinal instability, tumors, vascular malformations)
